About This Image
Location: Central Nevada
After having the chance to photograph bald eagles in Alaska, they quickly became one of my favorite subjects. Their presence, power, and sheer grace in the wild left a lasting impression on me. But I never imagined I'd get the chance to photograph one again—let alone so close to home.
A few years later, while exploring the mountains outside Las Vegas—an area that first nurtured my love for the outdoors—I had an unexpected encounter. There, soaring against the desert sky, was a bald eagle. It felt surreal.
I quickly tried to get into position, eager not to miss the opportunity. In my rush, I misjudged a frozen stream and fell straight through the ice. Soaked, cold, and discouraged, I thought the moment had passed me by.
But nature had other plans.
Not long after, I came across the eagle again, this time just as it was taking off. The light was perfect, the motion fluid, and everything slowed for a split second. I captured the image just before the eagle disappeared from sight.
When I got home and reviewed the shot, something caught my eye—the eagle’s foot glowed an intense red. At first, I was puzzled. Then I realized—it was remnants of its meal, likely an eel or small fish, still clutched in its talons.
That little detail brought the moment full circle. What I thought I had lost became something even more unique. Swift Movements is more than a wildlife photo—it’s a reminder that persistence pays off, and that wild beauty can appear in the places closest to our hearts.
