Location: Aspen, CO

By the third morning of my fall trip to the Maroon Bells in 2024, I had already spent time photographing the classic scenes—the reflections, the wide angles, the familiar compositions. So that morning, I decided to wander a little farther off the beaten path.

I followed the creek upstream to a quieter pool—just before it pours into the main lake—and found a bit of solitude away from the crowds. A local family of moose had been hanging out near this spot most mornings. In fact, one of them scared the life out of me in the pitch dark on the first day. Nothing like a loud snort behind you in the silence of 5 a.m. to get your heart racing.

The aspens were glowing in peak color, and the soft morning light lit up the valley in a way that felt gentle and timeless. That’s when I spotted him—a young bull, standing still and quiet, perfectly at ease in the golden light.

I took a moment, composed the shot, and pressed the shutter.

This image is more than just a moose in front of some fall color. It’s a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful moments in nature happen when you least expect them—in the quiet, in the stillness, where autumn leaves behind more than color... it leaves behind an echo.

In the rare event that your artwork is damaged during shipping, I will replace it at no cost to you.
