Not every shot starts with a plan. This one started with a walk.
I only had a few days in the Tetons and a short list of shots I wanted before I left. That afternoon, none of them were on the docket. I couldn't decide where to point the camera, so I did what I usually do when I'm stuck. I went for a walk.
I was staying in my van right on Jackson Lake, so I followed the shoreline with no real plan. Then the rocks stopped me. A whole bed of them, every color you can think of, sitting just under the surface, with Mount Moran standing behind it all like it owned the place.
The wind wasn't cooperating, so I waited. As the last light settled on the peaks, the water finally went quiet. A polarizing filter cut the glare and let me see all the way down to the stones.
Every one of them is underwater. That's where the name came from.
This one's about that. An afternoon with no plan, a lake right outside the van door, and a little patience at the end of it.
Best walk I took all trip.
